Welcome to the Future
The future begins today. How do we know? Because in 1985, when the movie Back to the Future was released, Doc Brown set his time machine to the date October 21, 2015. Besides, look around you. Our technology has changed a lot in the last 30 years. We now carry more computing power in our pockets than NASA had when they landed on the moon. So, how do we use this advanced technology in the live event production industry?
Two years after Doc Brown leaped from 1985 to 2015, LDI became the launching pad for new products being introduced to the industry. On Friday, the 28th year of LDI will begin, and you can be sure that the latest and greatest in entertainment technology will be on display. The highlights will likely be in the areas of LEDs (brighter, better lighting quality, more price competitive, etc.), automated lights with arc lamps (brighter, smaller, more competitive in price), wireless technology, networking, controllers (smaller, more powerful, portable, etc.), video display (higher resolution, easier setup, more price competitive), and video production. Did I miss anything? I hope so. I love surprises.
If you're in Vegas for LDI, be sure to stop by my classes (Entertainment Electricity: Advanced Topics for Complex Systems on Wednesday and Electrics Hands-On Workshop for Production Electricians & Technicians on Thursday) or the New Technology Breakfasts on Friday and Saturday.
